
Jean-François Parot is a French diplomat and author, and a specialist on the History of Paris in the 17th Century. Parot was born into a family with links to the world of cinema, and after studying History, Ethnology and Literature, Parot became a diplomat. He occupied a series of important chairs, both in France and abroad, before ending his career as French Ambassador to the Republic of Guinea-Bissau (2006-2010).
Parot is an acclaimed author, and is best known for his series of Nicolas le Floch books, in which the main character is a police inspector in the 17th Century. Parot’s books combine adventure, crime and accurate historical reconstructions. His novels have been translated into numerous languages and adapted for television by Hughes Pagan.
The eighth story in the Enquêtes de Nicolas le Floch, Le Noyé du Grand Canal (2009), won the Grand Prix du roman de la ville de Rennes (Best Book Award of The City of Rennes).
