
Christian Jacq is a French author and scholar. With a Doctorate in Egyptology Studies, Jacq has published many essays on the subject, including the very successful L’Egypte des grands Pharaons (1981), which was recognised by the Académie Française. He was a leading producer with French television channel France Culture, working most notably on Les chemins de la connaissance.
Jacq’s first novel, Champollion l’Egyptien was published in 1987 and enjoyed much success. In 1992, L’Affaire Toutankhamon won him the Prix des maisons de la presse. Between 1993 and 1994, Jacq published a trilogy called Le Juge d’Egypte which remained on France’s Bestseller list for one year. Later, he published La Vie de Ramsès II (The Life of Ramses II) in five volumes, the first of which sold 11 million copies worldwide. In 2000, Jacq published La pierre de la lumière, now available in twenty-three languages.
Christian Jacq is the founder of the Institut Ramsès. Along with a team of academics, Jacq continues to make a photographic description and record of Ancient Egypt in order to help preserve the sites.
